North Georgia Mountain Town
Lots & Land in Tiger, GA
Welcome to Tiger, a small Rabun County mountain town near Black Rock Mountain State Park and Clayton in the North Georgia Blue Ridge.
Tiger is a small town in Rabun County, Georgia, set in the Blue Ridge Mountains of the state's northeast corner, near the North Carolina line and just south of Clayton, the county seat. Incorporated in 1903, the same year the Tallulah Falls Railroad was extended to the community, Tiger grew as a mountain rail stop and later as a gateway to the recreation lands of Rabun County. Local lore recalls the large numbers of Mason jars unloaded at the Tiger depot, said to have been destined for moonshine distilled from the area's apples. The 2020 census recorded a population of about 575, up from 408 a decade earlier, reflecting the area's steady appeal to mountain-home buyers. Tiger lies just four miles from Black Rock Mountain State Park, Georgia's highest-elevation state park, whose overlooks, hiking trails, and cool ridgetop climate are a defining amenity for residents. Clayton, about five miles north along the U.S. 441 corridor, anchors the county's commerce, dining, and services. Education is provided by the Rabun County School District, headquartered in Tiger, with Rabun County Primary and Elementary schools located in the town and middle and high school campuses serving the county. The district's presence makes Tiger a focal point for families in the area. The surrounding region is rich in outdoor recreation, from waterfalls and trout streams to the lakes of Rabun County, including Lake Burton and Lake Rabun. Tiger's housing stock — cabins, cottages, and acreage homesites — draws full-time residents, retirees, and seasonal owners alike. For buyers, Tiger represents an authentic North Georgia mountain community with a cooler climate, scenic terrain, and convenient access to both the state park and the amenities of Clayton.
