Welcome to Epworth, a small Fannin County community in the Blue Ridge Mountains near the Tennessee line, known for its orchards and access to the Ocoee River.

Epworth is an unincorporated community and census-designated place in the north-central part of Fannin County, Georgia, in the Blue Ridge Mountains near the Tennessee border. The 2020 census counted 668 residents, and the community sits at an elevation of about 1,703 feet along Georgia State Route 5, north of the town of Blue Ridge. The community's history is rooted in the nineteenth-century settlement of the mountain valleys. A post office called Atalla was established in 1897, and in 1901 the name was changed to Epworth, in honor of the English birthplace of John Wesley, reflecting the Methodist heritage of the area's early churches. The name change marked the community's evolution from a remote mountain settlement into a recognized place along the Blue Ridge corridor. Today Epworth's character is defined by its mountain setting and its place in the Blue Ridge recreation region. Apple orchards remain part of the local landscape, and the community is surrounded by forested ridges and streams. It sits close to the Ocoee River, one of the most popular whitewater rafting destinations in the country, and within easy reach of the Blue Ridge Scenic Railway and the shops of McCaysville on the Tennessee line. Public education is provided by the Fannin County School District, which operates elementary, middle, and high schools serving the county. Daily services and commerce are found in Blue Ridge, a short drive south. Epworth's mix of longtime mountain residents and vacation homeowners gives it a quiet, outdoors-oriented character. For those seeking high-elevation scenery, cabin living, and access to the rivers, trails, and railways of north Georgia, the community offers a low-key base at the edge of the Blue Ridge.
